HIV women & vulnerable children

Vision: To alleviate poverty among the Kamukunji slum dwellers and create a future and a hope.

Mission: To transform the poor, needy people and others in the communities.

Background information

Location: Kamukunji slums of Eldoret town
Population: 100,000
Employment opportunities: Domestic help, waiter, bar maids, small businesses include hawking, kiosks operator, water vending, road side food vending, or prostitution.
Problems: Own no land because large population, unemployed, ethic racism, many have positive HIV/AID, one health centre & elementary school, inadequate electricity and sewage system.
Aftermath: Many children do not attend school, street life and immoral behaviors include drugs, crime and prostitution.

Program Description

Feeding program and training

One meal a day provided for informal school from preschool to elementary class 4. Support provided for HIV women, a venue for them to come and encourage each other. If there are extra dry foods, they are given out to help struggling families. Seminars are held for parents/ guardians to be trained on small scaled business and investments.

Projects Objectives
• Three meals a day for the children and an education
• Behavior change and self reconstruction ; counseling and develop guiding for the women
• Network with others in the community
• Learn skills through seminars for both parents/guardian to be able to generate income
